Maragh likely to return in Florida

Jockey Rajiv Maragh said that on Dec. 1, he will head to south Florida to ride the winter meet at Gulfstream.

Rajiv Maragh, who broke his arm when he was unseated from Wicked Strong during the Jockey Club Gold Cup on Sept. 27 at Belmont, likely will not return to race-riding until early December at Gulfstream Park. Maragh met with his doctor last week and was told that the bone has not fully healed. Maragh’s next visit with the doctor isn’t until Nov. 21.

Maragh said that on Dec. 1, he will head to south Florida to ride the winter meet at Gulfstream.

Maragh was enjoying a terrific year, with 101 victories and $9.5 million in purse earnings. In addition to winning the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on Wicked Strong, Maragh rode Main Sequence to three Grade 1 victories as well as Artemis Agrotera to a score in the Grade 1 Ballerina.

Rajiv I'm sorry you didn't got the chance to ride Main Sequence in the Breeder's Cup but on your advice Johnny V did a good job and I'm happy they won for your sake and trainer Graham Motion !

still waiting for junior alvarado to serve his 15 day suspension for his carless riding that almost got maragh killed. only in new york can a jockey get such a lengthy appeal process. i believe in due process but the new york procedures are ridiculous.

Totally agree! Why is Alvarado still riding, earning a living, while Rajiv has to sit out a lenghthy rehab......Alvarado should have been suspended immediately!! and sit our for as long as Rajiv takes to recup, period! Problem is its not only in NY, it's what wrong with racing across the country as a whole.Sad.

I said the same thing too , the appeal is too long. I watched the Jockey's Gold Cup and saw when Junior Alvarado glanced back at Wicked Strong and Rajiv Maragh and steered his horse right in their path . He could have killed both the Jockey and the horse. I believe they should ban him from the NY racing circle !
