Man Chester Man ships in for Lafayette win

The well-traveled Man Chester Man stalked the early pace under Tony McNeil before delivering a knockout punch down the stretch to win Monday night's $75,000 Lafayette Stakes, the closing night feature for 2-year-olds at Evangeline Downs. Vito Filitto finished a length and a half back in second, and was followed by Bailey's Charm, part of a three-horse entry that was bet down to 3-10.

Trained by Cash Asmussen, Man Chester Man ($16.80) won the Manor Thoroughbred Futurity at that second-tier Texas oval in late April. The Kansas-bred son of Grand on Dave then raided a pair of stakes at Anthony Downs in his home state before finishing seventh in the Clever Trevor at Remington Park in Oklahoma City in his most recent start.

Man Chester Man covered the six furlongs in 1:11.67 over a fast strip and the $45,000 he picked up for his fourth career victory increased his career bankroll to over $98,000.
