Man charged in Belmont killing

The Belmont Park backstretch worker who was arrested Tuesday in the killing of another exercise rider was charged with second-degree murder in a Nassau County courtroom Wednesday.

The accused man, Michael Lutchman, 43, was ordered held without bail, according to a Nassau County assistant district attorney, Gregg Turkin. Lutchman is unable to afford his own attorney, Turkin said, and will be assigned a lawyer Friday. Turkin said Lutchman pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.

Lutchman is accused of stabbing Dilip Amarsingh, 31, with a steak knife at approximately 5:30 a.m. Tuesday outside Belmont's main track kitchen.
