Email

A pair of Malibu Moon yearlings bred by Dark Hollow Farm took top honors at the 75th Maryland Horse Breeders Association's Thoroughbred yearling show on Sunday.

A colt out of the Unbridled mare Kinlin was named grand champion by the judge, the bloodstock agent Buzz Chace. He selected a filly out of the Clever Trick matron Clever Phrase as reserve champion. Each had won their respective classes for Maryland-bred yearlings by out-of-state stallions before taking their championship and reserve championship titles.

The Malibu Moon-Clever Phrase filly is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Ready's Image.

Shamrock Farms stallion Rock Slide won the Northview Stallion Station Challenge Trophy as leading sire.

Other Maryland-bred class winners were a Two Punch-Baste colt bred by Robert Manfuso and Katharine Voss, in the class for colts or geldings by Maryland sires and foaled before April 6, 2008; a Lion Hearted-Mystical Tap colt bred by Manfuso and Voss, in colts or geldings by Maryland sires and foaled after April 6, 2008; a Parker's Storm Cat-Calling Fappiano filly bred by Peter Fuller in the class for fillies by Maryland sires and foaled before April 6, 2008; and a Rock Slide-Mark Me Special filly bred by Michael Harrison, DVM, in fillies by Maryland sires and foaled after April 6, 2008.
