Malibu Moon colt leads session

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic's three-day Eastern fall yearling sale entered its final day Wednesday with strong prices at the top of the market.

As of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the final session's leading price was $135,000 for a Malibu Moon colt out of Picasso's Girl. Marathon Farms signed for the colt, consigned by Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck's Summerfield agency. The colt's dam is a daughter of Broad Brush and the Grade 3 winner True Affair, and this colt is her first foal.

Through Tuesday's second session, Fasig-Tipton Midlantic had sold 428 yearlings for $10,229,700, resulting in an average price of $23,901 and an $11,000 median. The buyback rate through Tuesday stood at 19 percent. At last year's sale, which only ran two days, the auction sold 493 head for $10,791,500, for an average price of $21,889 and a $12,000 median with a 23 percent buyback rate.
