Makeup Artist wins Senorita at Hollywood

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Makeup Artist had to be supplemented for $5,000 to Saturday's $113,500 Senorita Stakes at Hollywood Park. It turned out to be money well spent by owner George Krikorian, who watched Makeup Artist win her first stakes race.

In the Grade 3 Senorita for 3-year-old fillies, Makeup Artist ($4) rallied from sixth to win by 1 1/2 lengths over Rutters Renegade, who closed from last in the field of seven.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Makeup Artist completed one mile on turf in 1:36.54. On the backstretch, Makeup Artist was three lengths off a slow pace of 24.72 seconds and 49.09 set by the longshot Bartok's Beau. Espinoza moved Makeup Artist closer to the leaders on the final turn, challenging Bartok's Beau and Shapes and Shadows.

Racing wide in the early stretch, Makeup Artist took over from Shapes and Shadows in the final furlong and pulled away. Rutters Renegade finished a half-length in front of Shapes and Shadows, who was followed by Major Idea, Little Malvern, Bartok's Beau, and Deja.
