Major Big Time poised for Silver Cup win

AURORA, Colo. – Major Big Time is the solid choice Saturday at Arapahoe Park in the $20,000 Silver Cup Futurity. Eight juveniles who were sold at the Silver Cup sale here last Aug. 11 and remained eligible will compete in the 5 1/2-furlong sprint.

Major Big Time just missed in his career debut, which came June 28 in a trial for the CTBA Futurity. He came from off the rail in that six-furlong test, led in midstretch, but was unable to hold off Homerun King, beaten a neck. In the finals of the CTBA Futurity on July 12, he also had the lead in midstretch, then gave way late to favorite Dance to the Star and finished second, beaten a length.

Major Big Time is trained by Walter Harris and will again be ridden by Travis Wales for the Wafter Thoroughbred Farm Stable.

Noah by Storm and Kyles Oliver both showed promise in their career debuts and figures to offer the sternest opposition to Major Big Time. Noah by Storm and Kyles Oliver finished third and fourth here on June 29 facing maiden special weight company. Separated by a neck, they finished three lengths behind Jacknmini in the 4 1/2-furlong sprint.

Kyles Oliver is conditioned by James Jones, who is in the midst of a highly successful campaign. Noah by Storm will be saddled by Larry Chavez.

The Buddy Plan, trained by Kenneth Gleason, finished fourth, beaten nine lengths, in his career debut on July 13. The 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight affair was won by Gray Matters, who turned in an impressive outing in his debut that day.
