Major Big Time going for the gold

AURORA, Colo. – The $34,650 Gold Rush Futurity is one of four stakes at Arapahoe Park on Sunday, the final day of the 36-day stand.

Major Big Time won the Silver Cup Futurity here on July 26, and returns in the Gold Rush Futurity, carded as the eighth race. He won the Silver Cup by 6 1/2 lengths, but he won’t have an easy task in the six-furlong Gold Rush. Those who will ofer stern opposition include Gray Matters, Toccet to Me, and Jimni.

The $21,200 Rocky Mountain Arabian Cup kicks off the stakes action in the fourth race. The 1 1/8-mile race for older Arabians who must have started at least twice at the meet attracted Djet Set De Falgas, who will be favored. He has won 4 of his 6 starts this year and will face seven opponents.

Paints and Appaloosas compete in the $26,950 Harvest Cup Futurity, the fifth event on the nine-race program. Tudies Lineage, perfect in two starts here, figures to attract the bulk of the action in this 350-yard test.

The $114,430 Mile High Futurity for Quarter Horses will close out the nine-race program. Ten will compete in the 400-yard dash, with trainer Glen Atkison holding the upper hand. He qualified a pair in Agouti Special and Corona and Cuervo here on July 25.

Bully Eyes will seek to remain perfect in his fourth start.
