Majesto looks to continue family's winning ways in Florida Derby

Majesto will make his stakes debut in the Grade 1 Florida Derby.

Majesto, a half-brother to two Grade 1 winners, will be jumping into the deep end when he runs in the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park next Saturday.

The Tiznow colt, who is coming off a maiden win Feb. 27 at Gulfstream, is expected to be part of a short field facing unbeaten Kentucky Derby favorites Mohaymen and Nyquist.

“I know that the two big horses are very, very, very strong,” trainer Gustavo Delgado said. “To finish third would be very good for me. It looks like only six or seven horses will be in the race. Racing is racing, and anything can happen.”

Majesto races for Grupo 7C, which purchased him for $300,000 out of the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale. Out of the unraced Unaccounted For mare Unacloud, the colt is a half-brother to Meadow Breeze, the winner of the Grade 1 Matron Stakes as a juvenile; Overanalyze, a multiple Grade 2-winning juvenile who went on to take the following spring’s Grade 1 Arkansas Derby; and the Grade 2-placed Mighty Monsoon.
