Main Executive takes Kennedy Road

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Main Executive ($7.20) recorded a mild upset under Todd Kabel in Sunday's $125,800 Kennedy Road Stakes, a six-furlong dash at Woodbine.

Main Executive battled with Are You Serious through fractions of :22.31 seconds and :45.90, before taking a clear lead exiting the turn.

Judiths Wild Rush, the 6-5 favorite in the seven-horse field, commenced a four-wide rally on the turn, but then hung in mid-stretch. Main Executive established a two and a half-length lead at the eighth pole, and went on to score by a length and a half over Gangster, who edged Judiths Wild Rush by a neck for second.

"The toe grabs made a huge difference with this horse today," said Kabel, referring to the fact that toe grabs weren't allowed on the Polytrack until just recently. "I already felt very confident at the three-eighths pole."

Main Executive ran the distance in 1:10.02, earning $75,000 for Bruno Brother Farm and trainer Radlie Loney.

* Sealy Hill thrust herself into the Sovereign Award picture for this year's Canadian champion 2-year-old filly with an authoritative eight and one-quarter length victory in the $166,600 Glorious Song Stakes.

Sealy Hill closed wide from mid-pack under Patrick Husbands and overtook front-running Bear Now early in the stretch, then drew off to prevail in a quick final time of 1:23.88. Saskawea outran Bear Now for second in the nine-horse field.

Sealy Hill ($4.20) earned $105,000 for Melnyk Racing Stable and trainer Mark Casse.
