Maiden debuts for Ice

Belmont Stakes starter Summer Bird is not the only 3-year-old K.K. and Vilasini Jayaraman and trainer Tim Ice will be running Saturday. They will be represented by Cahill Star at their home track of Louisiana Downs.

She will be making her career debut in the fifth race, a maiden special weight. Cahill Star will face seven other fillies and mares in the six-furlong sprint, which also drew $450,000 auction purchase Tiz T'was. Cahill Star will break from post 2.

"I'm going to try to catch the race on TV," Ice said from Belmont Park on Thursday. "Hopefully, we'll get to watch it on simulcast."

Cahill Star is a Jayaraman homebred by Stark Ridge. Her dam, Vicky Cahill, won six races, and all four of her foals to race are winners. Carlos Gonzalez will ride Cahill Star.

"I expect a good effort from her," Ice said. "She's training well. Her last work, my wife oversaw it and said she went good. She's a calm filly, relaxed. She does whatever you ask her to do."

Cahill Star has a couple to beat. Tiz T'was, a 4-year-old making her debut, is by Tiznow, and her dam, Grade 3 winner French Satin, is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Lion Heart.

Just Plain Wayne could go favored after running second in a maiden special weight at Fair Grounds in March. She is trained by Michelle Lovell, who has won with 6 of 11 starters this meet at Louisiana Downs.
