Magnificent Song scores

Magnificent Song, under Garrett Gomez, rallied from last place to run down stablemate Somethinaboutbetty to win Friday's Grade 3, $112,900 by one length at soggy Saratoga.

Somethinaboutbetty, who set the early pace, finished second by 1 3/4 lengths over Quite a Bride, who suffered her first career defeat on turf after four straight wins.

Magnificent Song and Somethinaboutbetty are both trained by Todd Pletcher, who has won the first three graded stakes of the meet.

Pletcher said he put Somethinaboutbetty in the Lake George to make sure that Quite a Bride didn't get loose on the lead.

"We kind of chased Quite a Bride around there a couple of times in previous races, so I thought with Somethinaboutbetty and this filly would make good entrymates, hopefully ensure an honest pace," Pletcher said. "Actually, I think Somethinaboutbetty ran a huge race. She never stopped trying. The other filly dropped out the back and came with a big run late. It was a big race for both of them."

Magnificent Song, a 3-year-old daughter of Unbridled's Song owned by L and D Farms, covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.88 and returned $8.20 to win. The Lake George was run over a yielding turf course after heavy rains fell during the card.
