Magna 5 pays $8,912 to 51

The Magna 5 produced a season-low payoff of $8,912.80 to 51 ticket-holders on Saturday.

The winning combination included two winning favorites, two well-backed contenders, and one longshot.

Saturday's winners were favored Secret Look ($5.80) in the 10th race at Laurel, Tarlow ($11.80) in the La Canada Stakes at Santa Anita, Snowdrops ($9.40) in the Suwannee River Handicap at Gulfstream Park, Alpine Sport ($23.40) in the fifth at Santa Anita, and Let's Coast ($3.80) in the 11th at Gulfstream.

The most difficult winners to find were at Santa Anita. Tarlow beat A.P. Adventure, who was 4-5. Alpine Sport outfinished Klamathfallasleep, the 8-5 favorite who finished third.

Saturday was the third week this year the Magna 5 had been offered. The payoff was lower than the $406,985.80 returned to one winning ticket-holder on Jan. 29 and the $65,000 paid to six ticket-holders on Feb. 5.

Saturday's pool reached a season-high of $582,762, well in excess of the $500,000 guaranteed by Magna. The Feb. 5 pool was only $469,195.92. The company made up the difference.

The $2 bet features five races run within an hour at racetracks owned by Magna Entertainment.
