Magna 5 pays $65,000, fails to reach guarantee

The $2 Magna 5 returned $65,000 to six ticketholders on Saturday, a day when no favorites were successful.

The $2 bet features five races run within an hour at racetracks owned by Magna Entertainment.

The winners of the Magna 5 races were Malibu Moonshine ($6.80) in the Miracle Wood Stakes at Laurel, Caillech ($14.20) in the fourth race at Santa Anita, Saint Liam ($5.60) in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park, Smuggler's Run ($56.80) in the fifth race at Santa Anita, and Closing Argument ($17.80) in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Malibu Moonshine and Saint Liam were the second choices in the betting.

Saturday's pool was $469,195, failing to reach the $500,000 figure guaranteed by Magna. The company made up the difference.

On Jan. 29, the first day the bet was offered this year, one winning ticket was worth $406,985 from a pool of $521,776.

Saturday, the Magna 5 competed for attention with a pick six carryover of $369,815 at Santa Anita. The Santa Anita pick six attracted $1,534,254 in bets.
