Breeders’ Cup Turf winner and freshman sire Magician will return to his native country to continue his stud career at Coolmore’s Castlehyde Stud in Ireland, the international operation has announced. Magician, by international titan Galileo, has stood at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky since retiring for the 2015 season, and his first foals are 2-year-olds. The young stallion is scheduled to arrive at Castlehyde on May 6 and will immediately continue with the remainder of the Northern Hemisphere breeding season. :: Get breeding & sales news, Beyer info, and more delivered right to your email! “The Magician colt out of Perfect Step bought for 210,000 guineas at Tattersalls Book 2 has been earning very positive reports from Ballydoyle, so it makes sense to bring Magician back to Ireland,” Castlehyde manager John Kennedy said in a release, referencing the young stallion’s strong sale results in Europe. Kennedy also noted that Magician has juveniles in training with a number of top European trainers, which could further enhance his status. Magician was named the Cartier European champion 3-year-old male of 2013 after winning the Irish 2000 Guineas and beating The Fugue in the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Also the winner of a pair of Group 3 events, he finished second in three Grade 1/Group 1 events in 2014 – the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Tattersalls Gold Cup in Ireland, and the Arlington Million in his career finale. Magician has had one starter from his first crop, and that horse finished unplaced at Keeneland in a 4 1/2-furlong dirt sprint.
