Magic Show Czech takes Governor's Cup Futurity

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Magic Show Czech, fifth in the $1.1 million Ed Burke Million Futurity in June, won his first stakes in Saturday's $400,000 Governor's Cup Futurity for 2-year-old Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos.

The Governor's Cup Futurity was the richest race on a 13-race program for California-bred Quarter Horses.

Ridden by J.R. Ramirez, Magic Show Czech ($8.40) led throughout the 350-yard race, winning by 1 1/2 lengths over 15-1 Ought to be Rapid, who finished a half-length in front of 1-2 favorite Bikers Bono. Magic Show Czech, owned by Enrique Gonzalez and trained by Daniel Luna, was timed in a quick 17.22 seconds.

A gelding, Magic Show Czech has won 2 of 5 starts and $235,300.

Earlier on the program, FDD Dynasty, the 2006 champion 2-year-old colt, won the $170,000 Governor's Cup Derby by a neck over Not a Full Moon. Ridden by G.R. Carter, Jr., FDD Dynasty ran 400 yards in 19.46 seconds, winning for the seventh time in his nine-race career and pushing his career earnings to $1,017,826.

Soul of Silence ($47.20) provided the biggest upset of the evening in the $164,100 Spencer Childers Championship Handicap for older horses. Ridden by Saul Ramirez, Soul of Silence won the 400-yard race by three-quarters of a length over the 8-year-old millionaire Catchmeinyourdreams in 19.59 seconds.

Apollitical Time, the 2006 champion older horse, finished third in her first start since January.
