Lunachick unchallenged in Vallejo

ALBANY, Calif. - Lunachick ($3.20) broke alertly unlike her previous start in the Winners' Foundation Stakes and cruised to victory in the $55,412 Vallejo Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Sunday.

"She broke good today, and it was pretty much over," said winning jockey Russell Baze, who never moved on the winner as she put up fractions of 21.08, 43.33 and 55.51 as she won the six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies by four lengths over Hello Lucky in 1:08.42.

Winning trainer Steve Miyadi said he wasn't even looking at the fractions.

"I was just watching my horse," he said. "I trust Russell and his sense of pace and how much horse he has."

Lunachick earned her third victory in five starts. She finished second in her other two starts. Her $30,250 share of the purse lifted her career earnings to $71,625.
