Lumpkins ties Bay Meadows mark

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Jason Lumpkins tied a Bay Meadows record by riding six winners Sunday, joining Russell Baze as the only rider to win six twice at Bay Meadows.

Baze holds the northern California record of seven winners in a day, set April 16, 1992.

Lumpkins became the seventh rider in Bay Meadows history to ride six winners in one day last May 19. Johnny Adams (1938), Johnny Longden (1947), Bill Shoemaker (1950), Ralph Neves (1951), Bill Harmatz (1954), and Baze (1984 and 1999) are the other riders with six wins in a day at Bay Meadows.

Lumpkins's winners, all favorites, were Fog City Willy ($3) in the first, Runningwiththewind ($2.40) in the second, Gotta Get ($4.20) in the third, Is It True Mex ($5) in the fifth, Splendid George ($6) in the sixth and Johnny Show ($3.60) in the ninth.

Lumpkins also was second aboard 20-1 shot Pilgrim Miss in the eighth.

Lumpkins currently trails Baze, who had two wins Sunday, 28-22 in the Bay Meadows jockey standings.
