Hip 6, a filly named Californiabyanose, posted the fastest furlong at the Barretts March select 2-year-olds in training sale Monday.

The fastest times for one and two furlongs came in succession during Monday’s Barretts March select 2-year-olds in training sale.

A Lucky Pulpit filly covered an eighth of a mile in 9 4/5 seconds during the day’s third and final set over the main track at Del Mar Race Course, immediately followed by a Justin Phillip colt who breezed a quarter-mile in 20 3/5 seconds.

The day’s fastest furlong came from Hip 6, a filly named Californiabyanose by the late sire Lucky Pulpit, out of the placed Mr. Greeley mare Nine to Five Lady, who is the dam of one winner from two foals to race.

Californiabyanose’s third dam is Grade 1 winner Fara’s Team, putting her on the same page as 1994 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Concern, Peruvian champion Lolo Forever, and Grade 3 winners Tennis Lady and Delafield. She was bred in California by Cole Ranch and sold for $42,000 at last year’s Barretts fall yearling and all ages sale.

Havens Bloodstock Agency consigns Californiabyanose, as agent.

Monday’s fastest worker at a quarter-mile was Hip 48, a first-crop Justin Phillip colt who is the first foal out of the winning Speightstown mare Town Belle. He is from the family of Grade 3 winner Clearly a Queen and multiple Grade 2-placed Commute.

Bred in Kentucky by Highland Yard, the colt sold for $80,000 at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale. He previously brought $45,000 as a yearling at the 2015 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

Eddie Woods consigned the Justin Phillip colt, as agent.

The Barretts March sale will take place Wednesday beginning at 2 p.m. Pacific.
