Louisiana sale gets new director

The Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana has appointed Daren English as sales director of its 2013 yearling auction that will be held on Sept. 24, the organization announced late Friday. The sale, which is a production of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association, will be at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, La.

English brings more than 30 years of experience in the equine auction industry to the title, including 15 years with Fasig-Tipton. His responsibilities have included recruiting sales prospects as well as buyers, and also inspecting horses to be consigned to auctions. He holds a degree in animal science livestock merchandising from Oklahoma State University.

Entries to the upcoming yearling auction will close on June 10.

“The buyer response is very positive,” English said in a release. “Several pinhookers and trainers have already said they will be at the sale in West Monroe.”

The sale features the Bayou State Bonus, whereby any accredited Louisiana-bred foals of 2012 who are auctioned are eligible for a $100,000 bonus for a sweep of certain races. The colt or gelding who can win the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile, the 2015 Crescent City Derby, both at Fair Grounds, and the 2015 A.L. “Red” Erwin Memorial Stakes at Louisiana Downs, will earn a $100,000 bonus for his owner at the time of the final race. The same bonus stands for the filly sales graduate who can win the 2014 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie, the 2015 Crescent City Oaks, both at Fair Grounds, and the 2015 Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes at Louisiana Downs.
