Louisiana: Raspberry Wine upsets

Raspberry Wine stalked heavily favored Zarba the Great, overcame a potentially disastrous bobble in midstretch, and pulled away to a three-length victory in the $50,000 Lorelei Stakes at Louisiana Downs.

Zarba the Great, who had won her last four starts, settled for second, followed by Snipper Lou. Raspberry Wine, who has won 2 of 7 starts and more than $63,000, covered 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:44.99.

Ridden by Jose Riquelme, who survived a scare after briefly losing his balance in midstretch, Raspberry Wine ($19) raced with the addition of blinkers.

"The blinkers seemed to help her today," Riquelme said after the race. "She broke sharp and I just waited for the last three furlongs. She bobbled changing leads past the eighth pole, which caused me to lose my balance a little, but she really finished up all right."
