Louisiana HBPA sentencing postponed

Mona Romero, the former executive director of the Louisiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association who was to have been sentenced Thursday for her role in an election-rigging case, has a new sentencing date of Jan. 19, 2012, according to the offices of U.S. Attorney Jim Letten.

Romero in July pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud, and identity fraud, while one of her associates, Sean Alfortish, former president of the Louisiana horsemen’s asociation, pleaded guilty in the same case in August and is to be sentenced Dec. 15.
