Louisiana: Five in row for 'Costa'

Costa Rising won his fifth straight race when he cruised to a 2 1/2-length win over Chromite Soldier in the $75,000 A.L. "Red" Erwin for 3-year-old statebreds at Louisiana Downs. It was another nose back in third to Tommy's Turn.

Costa Rising ($3.80) led the field through fractions of 23.58 seconds for the opening quarter-mile, 47.34 for the half-mile, and 1:12.74 for six furlongs en route to covering about one mile on good turf in 1:36.75.

Mario Reyes rode the winner for trainer Joseph Boxie.

Costa Rising, a son of Royal Strand, began his win streak when he was stretched out to two turns back in April. All of his wins have come against Louisiana-breds, and around two turns.

Costa Rising earned $30,000 for his sixth win from 10 career starts. He has now earned $183,648 for owner Charles A. Castille Jr.
