Louisiana Downs: Super pick five bettors now chasing $626,830 carryover jackpot

The super pick five jackpot at Louisiana Downs has not been claimed since June 27, making for a $626,830 carryover heading into Thursday’s card. The bet runs on the last five races on the program, and the jackpot pays out only if there is one ticket with the winners of all of the races in the sequence. For the card Thursday, the super pick five will start with the fourth of eight races.

The sequence Thursday is highlighted by a second-level allowance at five furlongs on turf (race 5). The field of seven includes Paula’s Deelites, who is testing turf for the first time off a clear win in a first-level allowance for Louisiana-breds in his last start May 31.

“We waited on this spot,” said trainer Pat Mouton. “He’s by Afternoon Deelites, and they do okay on the grass. Also, if you look at the bottom side of his pedigree, he’s got a little turf breeding there. It’s a good opportunity to try him.”

Afternoon Deelites is getting 11 percent winners from his first-time turfers. Jurist, the dam of Paula’s Deelites, is a daughter of Kris S., and she won on the grass.

Richard Eramia has the mount from post 2.

◗ The Super Derby is a little more than a month away, and the local stepping-stone to the race, the $100,000 Prelude, will be run at Louisiana Downs on Saturday. The Prelude will anchor a card of four stakes, with the other races preps for the undercard stakes on Super Derby Day.
