Louisiana Downs: Shippers galore

Here's something that isn't seen regularly in a $40,000 stakes in this region: a pair of shippers from Kentucky and a horse whose last start came at Belmont Park. They are some of the players in the $40,000 Cornucopia, a 1 1/16-mile turf handicap for fillies and mares to be run Saturday at Louisiana Downs.

Float and Sting, who last raced at Churchill Downs, invades for trainer Bobby Barnett; Glimmer Twin, trained by Andrew McKeever, was second last out in an entry-level allowance at Kentucky Downs. Hottentot last raced at Belmont Park, finishing fourth in a $35,000 claimer. She will be making her first start for Louisiana Downs-based trainer Don Melancon.

Horses with Louisiana Downs form include top contenders Dyna Del and Gilded Wings, as well as Due to Win, who is the race's 116-pound highweight. She will be moving back to turf after winning the $50,000 Matron Handicap at Evangeline Downs on Sept. 4. Francisco Torres rode the mare for the first time last out and has the return call for co-owner and trainer Howard Scarberry.
