Louisiana Downs: Regions Reward back on turf

Email

Regions Reward, who fired some competitive races this winter at Oaklawn Park, will be getting back to his winningest surface, the turf, for the featured ninth race Saturday at Louisiana Downs. The first-level allowance for 3-year-olds and up will be run at a mile. It drew 11, including the promising Beckyboy, who was third in the $60,000 Gentilly at Fair Grounds in his last start Feb. 25.

Regions Reward last raced April 14, and ran third in a first-level allowance route at Oaklawn. He will be getting back to the grass for the first time since last September, when he was second in a first-level allowance at Louisiana Downs. Earlier in the meet he had won a $35,000 conditioned claimer and a $25,000 conditioned claimer, both at a mile on the local turf. The victories contributed to the strong meet had by his trainer, Al Cates, who went 12 for 48 last season at Louisiana Downs.

Saturday, Jose Riquelme has the mount on Regions Reward for owner Gary Woodall.
