Louisiana Downs: Old Bushmill tries winners

Email

A handful of half-siblings to some noted Louisiana-bred stakes winners will meet Monday in the featured third race at Louisiana Downs. The first-level allowance at a mile on turf is for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana.

Old Bushmill, who is a half-brother to $585,328 earner Ide Like a Double, will be taking on winners for the first time after his score in a local maiden special weight for statebreds May 14. He won the 7 1/2-furlong turf race by a half-length as the favorite under regular rider Richard Eramia. Old Bushmill will break from the rail for trainer Morris Nicks.

Daily Miracle, who is a half-brother to $211,130 earner Milwaukee Miracle, also is coming off a maiden score, but it came last September at Louisiana Downs in a turf route for which he earned a strong Beyer Speed Figure of 83. Ethanhaul, meanwhile, is a top contender and a half-brother to Z  Storm, a Louisiana-bred stakes winner of $395,130.

The field also includes Storm Half, whose half-brother Viva Pentelicus registered 17 of his 22 wins on turf.
