Louisiana Downs notes: Jacinto back at the track

Email

John Jacinto, a past title winner at Louisiana Downs, is back at the Bossier City, La., track after spending some time at Prairie Meadows.

“He starts riding here Friday,” said his agent, Richie Price. “He’s riding the meet here.”

Jacinto has spent the past few summer seasons at Evangeline Downs. He was last based at Louisiana Downs in 2008.

Jacinto on Friday has the mount on leading contender Speighter Man in the featured eighth race. The mile and 70-yard allowance is for 3-year-olds and up who have never won two races. Speighter Man, who has never finished worse than third in his career, will break from post 4. He is owned by Ella Mae Chisum and trained by former jockey Guy Smith.

Louisiana Downs this week is racing through Monday.

Stakes triple at Delta Downs

Delta Downs in Vinton, La., has three stakes for Quarter Horses on Friday night, led by the $81,002 Old South Futurity. Kodiak B, who is undefeated in two starts, will represent trainer Judd Kearl, the 37-year-old horseman who on Sunday wrapped up his fifth training title at Sam Houston.

In other races, the $52,550 Old South Derby drew Grade 2 winner Triple Vodka, while First Klas Fred has back class to call upon in the Grade 3, $25,000 Develop a Plan.

◗ Louisiana Downs-based jockey Beverly Burress is scheduled to resume riding on May 31, said her agent, Gary Duhon. Burress has been sidelined since a May 18 race. “Coming out of the gate, she hit her elbow,” said Duhon. Burress sustained a small fracture.
