Louisiana Downs: Ms Jingles deserving favorite in Mardi Gras Futurity

Ms Jingles, an impressive debut winner last month at Louisiana Downs, is the one to beat in the track’s Grade 2, $256,604 Mardi Gras Futurity on Saturday. The 300-yard race is one of the richest of the meet, and it will go with a field of 10.

Ms Jingles made her debut in trials for the Mardi Gras on Feb. 21. She broke on top and led throughout for a half-length win, and her time of 15.49 seconds for the 300 yards was the fastest qualifying time for the finale. Cajun On Star, who was second to Ms. Jingles, was the second fastest qualifier, going in 15.59.

Ms Jingles is a January foal by Bigtime Favorite, and she is trained by Frank Cavazos. J.R. Ramirez was aboard for her trial win and has the mount Saturday. She will race as part of a coupled entry with Jess Blue Boy Lena.

Cajun On Star is coupled with Cocky One. Both horses are trained by Miguel Rodriguez, who has won with 45 percent of his 56 starters this meet at Louisiana Downs.

Also on the card, Mr T Perry will be going for his fifth straight win when he starts in the $95,684 Mardi Gras Derby.
