Louisiana Downs: 'Magic' act

Magic Sunset, a perfect 2 for 2 over the Louisiana Downs main track, will attempt to take another step through his conditions in Tuesday's $32,000 optional-allowance headliner. The likely favorite, he will square off against five other Louisiana-breds at six furlongs.

Trainer Tom Amoss claimed Magic Sunset for Harris Thoroughbreds from his debut, a $25,000 statebred maiden claimer at the Fair Grounds meeting at Louisiana Downs last November. The new connections wheeled Magic Sunset back in a maiden special affair a month later and the result was a two-length victory.

A winter and spring campaign at Evangeline Downs produced four straight in-the-money finishes, but it was not until Magic Sunset, returned on June 9 that he won again, delivering his second victory by more than nine lengths as the favorite in a sharp 1:09.94 for the six furlongs. That effort looks even better now that the runner-up, Cut Off Time, has since won himself.

The main threat to Magic Sunset appears to be Sidebuster B, who is coming off an impressive win on May 14, when he defeated upper level state-bred claimers by two lengths.
