Louisiana Downs: Electrode cruises

Email

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Electrode made a strong case for being the meeting's top sprinter, cruising to a 2 1/4-length win in the Island Whirl Handicap. Compendium, who dueled outside the winner for much of the way, had to settle for second, followed by Taxicat.

Owned by Jack Brooks and trained by Cole Norman, Electrode ($11) won for the third time in five local starts this year and for the sixth time in his career. He covered the seven furlongs in 1:22.25 over a fast strip under Carlos Gonzalez and picked up $24,000 to increase his career bankroll to just over $120,000.
