Louisiana Downs: Distinguish gets up

Email

Distinguish unleashed a furious rally down the center of the course to score a head victory in Monday's $100,000 Total Rewards Breeders' Cup at Louisiana Downs, equaling the five-furlong course record of 55.99 seconds. Lismore, a 15-1 longshot trained by Cole Norman, had collared early leaders Venomous and favored Unbridled Sidney inside the furlong pole, but could not last and had to settle for second. Top Commander, who now shares the course record, which he set in 2004, finished third, followed by Venomous.

Trained by Martin Lozano for Gary Owens, Distinguish ($15) made it 2 for 2 on the grass after winning the Brother Brown Stakes at Remington in his last start. Ridden by Justin Shepherd, Distinguish covered the five furlongs over firm going in 54.99 seconds. He improved his record to 6 for 19, and his earnings are now over $152,000.
