Louisiana Downs: Atthispointintime tries turf in allowance

Email

Atthispointintime is an improving 3-year-old filly whose future racing path could be determined in Monday’s second race at Louisiana Downs. She will be making both her two-turn and turf debut in the first-level allowance, which will be run at about a mile. It is for fillies and mares, and the field of six is led by Kidding, who has finished second at this level in her last two starts, which came at Fair Grounds and Louisiana Downs.

Atthispointintime, whose two wins have come in dirt sprints, gets pedigree support for the new tasks she will be facing Monday. Her sire, Point Given, a Horse of the Year whose wins included the Preakness and Belmont Stakes, is a source of stamina. Point Given also gets a fair number of winners on the grass, hitting at a 9 percent rate with first-time turfers and getting 11 percent winners overall on the green.

Atthispointintime gets further support for turf from her female family. Her dam, Dream Machine, has produced a turf winner and also is a half-sister to Dreadnaught, who was a multiple Grade 2 winner on the grass. Atthispointintime also hails from a barn that excels with its turf starters as her trainer, Morris Nicks, wins with 31 percent of his horses making their first starts on the grass.

Richard Eramia has the mount on Atthispointintime, who races for Baroone Farms.

Kidding, a 4-year-old by Lemon Drop Kid, was beaten 1 1/2 lengths in a first-level allowance at a mile on turf in her last start May 4. Mark Guidry has the mount for trainer Mike Burgess.
