Lost at Sea the real thing

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - The Grade 3 Singapore Plate Handicap revisited the Iowa Oaks and six previous Arlington graded stakes this summer. Just like in the Iowa Oaks, Lost at Sea surprised See How She Runs. And just like in six other Arlington graded stakes, Rene Douglas rode the winner.

Douglas's win came for his best client at Arlington, Jerry Hollendorfer, who trains Lost at Sea for owners Peter Abruzzo and John Franks. And while her 22-1 win in Iowa seemed fluky, it turns out Lost at Sea is a little better than See How She Runs right now.

See How She Runs had no apparent excuses in the $100,000 Singapore Plate. Don Pettinger sent See How She Runs straight to the lead and made it easily. Lost at Sea stalked the pace, and when Summer Mis challenged See How She Runs on the far turn Douglas went with her. With Summer Mis fading between horses, Lost at Sea looked See How She Runs in the eye turning for home and gradually edged away in the stretch, scoring by 1 1/4 lengths. Lost at Sea paid $9 to win while running 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.58. Strikes No Spares finished third.
