Lost in the Fog out of Crown

Lost in the Fog will not participate in any of the Triple Crown races, according to his trainer, Greg Gilchrist.

Lost in the Fog has won his four career starts by a combined 31 lengths, earning triple-digit Beyer Speed Figures in each race. In his most recent start, the Grade 2 Swale Stakes on March 5, he covered seven furlongs in 1:22.21, winning by 4 3/4 lengths. He was given a Beyer of 105 for that race.

Although not nominated to the Triple Crown, Lost in the Fog was included as a separate entry in the first two pools of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, with a $45.80 payoff in Pool 1 and $28 payoff in Pool 2. Wagers in the future pools are non-refundable.

"It has nothing to do with the horse going around two turns. He will at some point," said Gilchrist, who has not yet run the horse farther seven furlongs. "The whole time we stayed in the mix was because we thought we might go to the Preakness."

Gilchrist and owner Harry Aleo are weighing three options for Lost in the Fog's next start: the Grade 3, $150,000 Bay Shore at seven furlongs at Aqueduct on April 9, the $125,000 Lost Code Breeders' Cup Handicap at six furlongs at Hawthorne on April 9, or the Grade 3, $100,000 Lafayette at six furlongs at Keeneland on April 10.
