Lost in the Fog gets home prep

Bay Meadows has added a new $100,000 sprint stakes to its fall schedule, which would give undefeated Lost in the Fog a possible prep race for the Breeders' Cup.

The Bay Meadows Speed Handicap will be run on Oct. 1, four weeks before the Breeders' Cup at Belmont Park. The six-furlong race is for 3-year-olds and up and would be Lost in the Fog's first race against older runners.

"I'm very happy this race has come about," said Lost in the Fog's trainer, Greg Gilchrist. "It would definitely fit into our schedule well. I'd have to say we're very interested."

Earlier this week, Gilchrist confirmed that Lost in the Fog would run in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. He said the colt would either run in the Grade 1, $500,000 Vosburgh at Belmont on Oct. 1 and remain in New York for the Breeders' Cup, or train up to the race.

Bay Meadows is also scheduled to hold the Grade 3, $125,000 Bay Meadows Breeders' Cup Handicap, a 1 1/8-mile turf race, on Oct. 1.
