Email
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. - Stel My Corona led throughout Saturday’s $382,000 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Breeders’ Futurity at Los Alamitos, scoring a half-length upset in her first major stakes appearance.
Stel My Corona ($26.80) ran 350 yards in 17.49 seconds under jockey Rodrigo Aceves, holding off a sustained threat from Jr Dynasty Mountain to win by a half-length. Far Niente, the 8-5 favorite, finished third, a head behind Jr Dynasty Mountain.
Stel My Corona, a gelding by Stel Corona, has won 2 of 6 starts and $167,280. Trained by Paul Jones for breeder Tony Doughtie of Huntsville, Texas, Stel My Corona will be pointed for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity, which has trials on Nov. 25 and finals on Dec. 16.
Friday, Ima Chickie Too, the winner of the 2011 PCQHRA Breeders’ Futurity, won the $160,000 PCQHRA Breeders’ Derby, the filly’s first stakes win of the year.
Ridden by Ramon Sanchez, Ima Chickie Two ($5.80) won by a neck over Separate Thoughts, finishing 400 yards in 19.87 seconds. Trained by Jose Antonio Flores for S-Quarter K, LLC, Ima Chickie Too was second in the Governor’s Cup Derby in July.
Ima Chickie Too, by Chicks Beduino, has won 5 of 13 starts and $346,448.
Flores said that Ima Chickie Too will make her next start in the trials of the Southern California Derby later this fall.

ONE NINE NINE raced quite wide en route to a commendable second behind future stakes winner Man Stuff the only time she saw action last spring. She wintered at Payson Park before working four times here on the Poly, and should be ready to rumble with Da Silva riding for a live barn. GLORIOUS ANGEL ran against a speed bias when fifth in an April 21 maiden special. Trainer Mark Casse hit with 20% of his second-out droppers to maiden-claiming company over the past five years ($1.50 ROI). MORNING HAS BROKEN was a chalky second vs.
