Los Alamitos plans four stakes during September meeting

CYPRESS, Calif. - Four stakes, including two $100,000 races for 2-year-olds, will highlight the 12-day Los Angeles County Fair meeting at Los Alamitos from Sept. 7-24.

The track announced the concise stakes calendar on Friday on the final weekend of the summer meeting, which ends on Sunday.

The county fair meeting will have stakes on three Saturdays, beginning with the $75,000 Beverly Lewis Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 6 1/2 furlongs and the $75,000 E.B. Johnston Stakes for California-bred milers on Sept. 9.

The $100,000 stakes are run at 6 1/2 furlongs for horses offered at a sale conducted by Barretts - the Barretts Debutante for fillies on Sept. 16, and the Juvenile for colts and geldings on Sept. 23.

Los Alamitos had three stakes during the current summer meeting, including two $200,000 races. The track’s December meeting will include two Grade 1 races at 1 1/16 miles: the Starlet for 2-year-old fillies and the Los Alamitos Futurity.
