Los Alamitos: Pick four play for Saturday, July 15, 2017

Race 5
SLIGHTLY found the shorter 870-yard trip last time out a bit too sharp but she ran on well for third, showing she has good form and handles this place. Surely the longer trip helps. PROPHETINPARADISE comes off a game win on Pleasanton dirt and Guillen saw fit to claim her. She boasts loads of speed and has run well vs. more expensive. SMIL’N FROM ABOVE hasn’t had a lot of success (3 for 90) but at least some of her best races have come here. (3)

Race 6
GENERAL IKE was gone 18 months but has come back sharp, finishing a nice third at Santa Anita April 22 (to West Coast, who came back to win a stakes at Belmont and is the big favorite in today’s Grade 3 Los Alamitos Derby in the next race) and was then a decent fourth for $50,000 at Santa Anita June 9. He has speed, figures fitter off those two outings and today’s drop helps, too. UNINVITED ran fourth behind GENERAL IKE in that aforementioned April 22 outing but has been freshened. LUCKY J LANE ran well on dirt at Santa Anita May 12 when second and returning to dirt may help. He won here last Sept. 25. (3)

Race 7
WEST COAST looked super whipping some nice sophomores in Belmont’s Easy Goer on the Belmont Stakes undercard June 10. He’d always shown promise and looks ready to deliver on it. KLIMT flashed ample talent last summer including taking the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity. He missed this year’s classics but has trained well for his first start of 2017. (2)

Race 8
GATO DULCE has been knocking on the door and looks ready to break through. That sharp second last time out at Santa Anita June 2 was his first try at this distance so he can improve. PARCHED set the pace before ending up a well-beaten third at Santa Anita June 23 and is headed the right way. WONDERING WAYS kept to his task to be second here July 8, and while no threat to a runaway winner finished far clear of the rest. (3)
