Los Alamitos: Chivalry Sr earns Champion of Champions spot with Los Alamitos Championship win
Email
LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Chivalry Sr is bound for the $750,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos on Dec. 15 after scoring an upset win against a top field of older Quarter Horses in the $150,000 Los Alamitos Championship on Sunday night.
Making his second start of 2012, Chivalry Sr ($15.60) broke well under jockey Cruz Mendez and held off a late surge from El Aguila Real to win the 440-yard race by a head in 21.51 seconds.
Cold Cash 123, the 2011 World Champion Quarter Horse, could only finish third as the 2-5 favorite. Cold Cash 123 broke slower than Chivalry Sr and El Aguila Real and could not reach the front. He finished a neck behind El Aguila Real.
El Aguila Real and Cold Cash 123 are top candidates for the Champion of Champions, which is run over 440 yards.
Chivalry Sr was third in the 2011 Champion of Champions, and underwent knee surgery at the start of this year. Owned by Stern Ranches and trained by Jose Antonio Flores, Chivalry Sr, 5, has won 8 of 21 starts and $317,856.
Another top pick for Les Onaka.

On the heels of a super-fast performance at Aqueduct, BIG SCREEN was close to a blistering pace in a strong renewal of the Westchester and stayed in contention to the stretch; only loss in allowance company this year was a second to Cigar Street, who subsequently won a Grade 3.
