Email

Lord Weinstock, one of Britain's leading owner/breeders, died at his home in London on Tuesday after a long illness. He was 77.

Weinstock was part-owner with his father-in-law, Sir Michael Sobell, of Troy, winner in 1979 of both the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby, and Sun Princess, the winner in 1983 of the English Oaks and the St. Leger Stakes. He also campaigned six-time Group 1 winner Pilsudski, the winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf at Woodbine in 1996, Irish 2000 Guineas and Champion Stakes winner Spectrum, and 1980 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes winner Ela-Mana-Mou. The most recent of his Group 1 winners was Golan, who took last year's 2000 Guineas and who will contest the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes on Saturday.
