Lord ofthe Thunder back quickly

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Aqueduct's 6 1/2-month meet comes to a conclusion on Sunday with the $75,000-added Kings Point Handicap.

Gander, one of the most accomplished New York-breds in history, would have added spice to the restricted Kings Point, but he is not among the starters. Gander's connections, citing the 126-pound weight assignment for the Kings Point, will run him instead in Wednesday's $100,000 Westchester Handicap on opening day at Belmont Park.

Favoritism could fall to Lord ofthe Thunder in the 1 1/8-mile Kings Point, which drew eight runners.

Lord ofthe Thunder, Union One, and Sophisticated Man are the co-highweights at 117 pounds. Also entered are Netcong, Mr. Determined, Quatre Dix Neuf, Spite the Devil, and Storm the Gate.

It might be too quick back for Lord ofthe Thunder, who finished third April 25 as the favorite in a seven-furlong race. That effort came on the heels of a second-place finish behind Grade 2 winner Saarland on April 11.

Lord ofthe Thunder has been equipped with glue-on shoes on his back feet since his last start, according to trainer Jennifer Pedersen.

"This is the race I've been pointing for with him," Pedersen said.

Javier Castellano rides Lord ofthe Thunder, who drew post 4.

Quatre Dix Neuf has two wins at Aqueduct and might be alone on the early lead Sunday. Quatre Dix Neuf, who is trained by Jimmy Jerkens, is coming off a half-length win against open company on April 6 at the Kings Point distance. He also won a restricted race at Aqueduct last November.

Aaron Gryder rides Quatre Dix Neuf, who drew post 5.

An intriguing horse is Union One, who was an also-eligible in Saturday's $75,000 Henry S. Clark on the turf at Pimlico. The majority of Union One's starts have come on the grass, but he did win his career debut at Belmont by 11 1/2 lengths on the dirt.

Trained by Michael Dickinson, Union One returned to the races for the first time since November 2001 at Philadelphia Park March 31, finishing third as the favorite in a seven-furlong dirt race.

Jose Santos rides Union One from post 3.
