Look to the 'Moon'

The colts and geldings division of the $25,000 Colorado Breeders Stallion Stakes at Arapahoe attracted a field of five. The seven-furlong test is limited offspring conceived by a nominated stallion standing in the state.

Menoken Moon, one of two in the lineup who have broken their maidens, will likely be favored. He is trained by Jon Arnett, who at the midway point of the meeting is still saddling winners at a 35 percent clip.

Menoken Moon is coming off a second-place finish facing lower-level allowance runners on June 18 in his second start of the campaign. He was beaten 1 3/4 lengths by Explosive Craft in the that six-furlong race. Prior to that, he finished three lengths back of Darmani in a $10,000 claiming test. Travis Wales, who was aboard Menoken Moon when he won his maiden last July, has the return call.

Such a Deal, who won his maiden in the trials of the Breeders Futurity last July, will offer the sternest opposition to Menoken Moon. He went on to finish second in the finals of the futurity, beaten 7 1/2 lengths by Folsum. Trained by Monk Hall, Such a Deal has started twice this season, both against lower-level allowance runners, finishing fifth and fourth.

Roberto Ramirez will be making his initial appearance aboard Such a Deal.
