Longshots create carryovers in pix six, super high five

ARCADIA, Calif.- There are two carryovers at Santa Anita on Sunday - a pool of $104,326 to start the pick six in the fourth race and $43,334 in the super high five on the ninth race.

The upset win by Badasmywifeletsmeb ($18.40) in Saturday’s ninth race, clinched both carryovers. The pick six proved tough to conquer early on Saturday’s program with wins by Fanticola ($16.20) in the Megahertz Stakes, and Thegirlinthatsong ($15) in the Grade 2 La Canada Stakes.

Sunday's pick six covers the fourth through ninth race on a program that begins at noon Pacific. The first pick six race has a post time of 2 p.m.

The pool of new money in the pick six could surpass $500,000. What will be interesting to see is the super high five pool. The bet has grown in popularity in recent months, and a carryover into Sunday could easily lead to another $500,000 in that pool as well.

As of Saturday, there were no early scratches for Sunday's program. The pick six features two turf races, including the $75,000 Astra Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/2 miles on turf.

The pick six races have decent field sizes of 12, 8, 10, 9, 9, and 11. The fourth race has a field of 14 maiden claimers in the entries, but will have a safety limit of 12 starters.

Many of the races are competitive. The lowest price on the morning-line in the pick six races is Lady Pimpernel at 9-5 in the Astra Stakes..
