Longchamp: Prix de l'Opera favorite Izzi Top already assured of Breeders' Cup berth
Email
The 4-year-old filly Izzi Top has already earned a berth to the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf through her win in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes in Ireland in July.
Sunday, she will be favored in a field of 14 in the Group 1 Prix de l’Opera for fillies and mares over 1 1/4 miles, a race that also offers an automatic berth to the BC Filly and Mare Turf.

Izzi Top, who is trained by John Gosden, was second to the sidelined Snow Fairy in the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville, France, in August. Two other runners from that race – Galikova and Giofra, who were third and sixth, start in the Prix de l’Opera.

In the day’s longest race, the Group 1 Prix du Cadran over 2 1/2 miles, the 10-year-old defending champion Kasbah Bliss can end a four-race losing streak this year. There are 11 runners in the Prix du Cadran, including Goodwood Gold Cup winner Saddlers Rock and Ascot Gold Cup winner Colour Vision. They were fifth and seventh in the Doncaster Cup last month.
There are two American shippers on the Arc program. The Arabians TM Fred Texas and Rich Frynchman, first and third in the President of the United Arab Emirates Cup at Pimlico in May, start in the $903,000 Qatar Arabian World Cup over 1 1/4 miles.
The Arabian race is the second richest race on the nine-race program.
Best Bets
SLIGO JOE finished third, fourth, or fifth against classier company in each of his last four races. He ran fast enough in his last two starts to beat this type on the plunge from $10,000 optional claiming into this $5,000 N1Y field. LATCH LIGHTING only finished fifth as the favorite at this class level last time. He should be a factor today, but he seems more likely to contend in the minor exotic slots than he is to beat this field. STEALTH HERO ran a dull race when he beat just one opponent here on a muddy track in his last race.
