Lone Star: Three turf races

Turf is the theme of the card at Lone Star Park on Tuesday, with the three richest races on the program to be run on the grass. The action starts in the fourth with a first-level allowance at one-mile and Communion should be a slight favorite over the streaking Hot Foot Slew.

Communion made his turf debut last out and was second by a half-length to James Ready Magic, who has since won another allowance. Communion earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 80, the highest last-race number in the field. Trainer Donnie Von Hemel has given the mount to Alfredo Juarez Jr.

Hot Foot Slew is looking for his third straight win. His streak started in May, when he won for a claiming price of $25,000 on turf. One start later, Hot Foot Slew won for $30,000 on the grass. He figures to be coming in the later stages. Roger Engel trains Hot Foot Slew and has given the mount to Quincy Hamilton.

Gondolieri looks like the one to beat in the sixth race, a one-mile optional claimer that also drew Tromp, Oncearoundtwice, Runaway Choice, and Siphonizer. In the eighth, fillies and mares will be matched at five furlongs, and the one to catch is Runs Naked.
