Lone Star: Sweep for Asmussen

Trainer Steve Asmussen swept both divisions of the Texas Thoroughbred Association Sales Futurity, winning the colts and geldings with Expect Will and the fillies with Berdelia.

Expect Will gave Asmussen his first win in the $118,570 colts and geldings division when he was up for a nose victory in the race for 2-year-olds. He was one of six horses in the field trained by Asmussen. A seventh horse from the Asmussen barn, Robbeau, was scratched.

Expect Wings finished second in the race, a half-length in front of third-place finisher Leaving on My Mind.

Expect Will settled in fourth early in the five-furlong race, then moved to the outside and rallied efficiently for the win, covering the distance over a fast track in 58.69 seconds.

Jeremy Beasley rode the winner for Heiligbrodt Racing Stable.

Expect Will, who was part of a favored entry with Goes and Paloo, returned $4. The win was his third in as many career starts, and his bankroll is now $96,942.

* In the $129,830 fillies division, Berdelia closed with a burst and rallied for a one-length win over pacesetter Glitter Sexy, who is also trained by Asmussen. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Miss Know it All.

Berdelia ($10.20), ridden by Casey Lambert, covered five furlongs in 58.79 seconds. She earned $77,898 for the win, which was her first in three career starts.
