Email

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Spring Meadow, an impressive debut winner this winter at Santa Anita, became a stakes winner Saturday when she held off a late bid by Gilded Wings to win the $150,000 Stonerside at Lone Star Park.

Savorthetime, who dueled through fast early fractions with Storm Witch, finished 3 1/2 lengths back in third.

Spring Meadow ($7.20) raced about two lengths behind Savorthetime and Storm Witch, who ran the opening four furlongs of the seven furlong race for 3-year-old fillies in 44.73 seconds. The eventual winner overtook the leaders past the quarter pole, and drove home, finishing a length clear of Gilded Wings.

Spring Meadow covered seven furlongs in 1:23.79.

Marlon St. Julien rode Spring Meadow for trainer Bob Hess Jr. and owner Fog City Stable. Earlier this meet, Hess won the $100,000 Grand Prairie Turf Challenge with National Park.

Spring Meadow earned $90,000, for her second victory from six career starts.
