Lone Star Park: Calhoun saddles winners in seven straight races locally

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas- Trainer Bret Calhoun won all seven of the races he had starters in during the past week at Lone Star Park, where he sent out a total of eight runners between last Thursday and Sunday.

Coyote Canyon ($5.80) capped the big race week on Sunday when he won the fifth race. He was one of two starters Calhoun had in the maiden special weight sprint for 2-year-olds, with Gold Road Mine finishing sixth as a separate interest.

Calhoun’s run of winners began on June 16, when he sent out Canigotoo to win a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds with a Beyer Figure of 98, and Inthenickoftime to take a first-level allowance. Calhoun also had a training doubles on Friday, with Rich Elm and Nothinbettertodo, and on Saturday, with Fast Resource and Convicted.

He is the current leading trainer at Lone Star.

Trainer Chris Candies in 1999 won six consecutive races at Lone Star.
