Lone Star: Pair of six-figure dashes

EmailSome of the quickest 2-year-old Quarter Horses on the Lone Star Park backstretch will assemble for the Grade 1, $432,090 Dash for Cash Futurity. The 400-yard race is one of two major stakes on the card. The track will also run the Grade 1, $214,500 Dash for Cash Derby.

Possum Fust, the runner-up in the Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity, will meet Illegal Memories, the fastest qualifier for the Dash for Cash Futurity. Possum Fust, trained by Eddie Willis, has made two starts in graded stakes during his career, and just missed in both. In the Rainbow at Ruidoso in July, he came rolling for second, beaten a neck. Earlier in his career, Possum Fust was second by a nose in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Futurity at Remington Park.

Illegal Memories ran 400 yards in a night's-best 19.88 seconds during the Oct. 13 trials. He will be seeking his third straight win Saturday. Roy Baldillez has the mount for trainer Doug McMullen. Other horses of interest include Coronas Fast Dash, who won a trial for the All American Futurity in August and finished seventh at 5-1 in the Grade 1 finale at Ruidoso.

Diamond Tres Seis will be shooting for his sixth straight win in the Dash for Cash Derby. During his streak, his wins have included the Grade 2 Sam Houston Derby.
